2024.07.16 The CH Biotech Innovation Award meticulously selected outstanding biotech talents, encouraged innovative research, enhanced industry competitiveness, and fulfilled corporate social responsibility

CH Biotech Co., Ltd. (Stock Code 6534, hereinafter referred to as “CH Biotech”) held the fifth “CH Biotech Innovation Award” ceremony on July 16, 2024. Chairman Chen-Pang Wu expressed, “I am very grateful for the help and guidance from our teachers, which has provided CH Biotech with a continuous drive to make efforts and contributions to Taiwan’s biotech industry, turning innovative ideas into reality, and bringing Taiwan’s biotech industry onto the international stage.” Jury Chairman Jenn-Wen Huang stated, “CH Biotech has never ceased its efforts in nurturing Taiwan’s biotech talents. Each year, the focus of research and innovation is on net-zero carbon emissions and combating extreme climate. Relevant products have been continuously presented and marketed internationally. We hope that the award recipients will strive in their respective fields for Taiwan’s biotech industry, continue to shine, and let every corner of the world know about the vigorous development of Taiwan’s biotech capabilities.” This year, a total of 29 groups of teachers and students from 29 academic and research institutions across Taiwan applied to participate in the competition. After a thorough selection process by the judges, which included both a written review and an on-site presentation, a total of 19 winners were selected for the fifth CH Biotech Innovation Award in the Basic Theory Group, the Applied Innovation Group, and the Young Scholars Group. The participating young scholars this year were outstanding, and for the first time, two young scholars were selected, bringing the total prize amount to 1.82 million NTD. The awarded works have expanded from the field of plants to include animals and aquatic products, with research topics that are more applicable, diverse, forward-looking, and international.

During the award ceremony, inspirational quotes were abundant, and each winner’s research story could form a heartwarming and motivating collection. Here are some classic shares:
1. Can you guess what makes a teacher or researcher the happiest? The answer is outstanding students, funding, commercialization of results, and recognition of achievements. What do you think?
2. There are only top students, not top teachers.
3. Can you imagine the dream-chasing journey of someone who never had the luxury of books to read but made their way from Tibet to Taiwan to earn a doctorate?
The keynote speeches were a feast of knowledge, featuring the Young Scholar Award winners: Distinguished Professor Wang Han-Ching from the Department of Biotechnology and Bioindustry Sciences at National Cheng Kung University and Professor Chen Hui-Wen from the Department of Veterinary Medicine at National Taiwan University. They presented on “Using Multi-omics Integration Strategies to Explore the Pathogenic Mechanisms, Host Responses, and Environmental Interactions of Shrimp Pathogenic Diseases” and “Comprehensive Research on Animal Viruses: Vaccines, Drugs, and Pathogenicity,” respectively. The speakers are virology experts in the fields of aquaculture and animal sciences. Distinguished Professor Wang Han-Ching, who carries Taiwan’s forward-looking capabilities in shrimp farming education, academia, research, disease prevention, and industry, provides solutions to the global shrimp disease crisis. She encouraged the audience with Marie Curie’s words: ” Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.” Professor Chen Hui-Wen, who is also a veterinarian, has developed comprehensive solutions for animal diseases. Her innovative technologies include:
1. Development of antiviral nano-vaccines.
2. Formulation of antiviral drugs.
3. Development of virus culture, identification, and testing reagents, such as the “Parrot Guardian” test: a small drop of blood to protect your parrot’s life.
These inspirational quotes and pioneering research surely resonate with you and stir your enthusiasm. Feel free to like, comment, and share. Join the next year’s CH Biotech Innovation Award and share your innovative research story with everyone.
