Foundation Labs
At CH Biotech, five dedicated labs form Foundation Labs of our global research center, including Seed Storage and Plant Production Lab, Phenotyping and Morphology Lab, Physiological Functioning Lab, Metabolic Functioning Lab, and Gene Regulation and Signaling Lab. They identify and assess key issues that arise during agricultural production in a systematic and thorough manner. By drawing on expertise and technologies involving phenomics, metabolomics, proteomics and genomics, Foundation Labs analyze biological mechanisms, provide research data from macro and micro perspectives, and formulate solutions.
Seed Storage and Plant Production Lab
The lab cultivates standard seedlings that meet various testing requirements to ensure accuracy and repeatability of test materials. Seeds of field crops (wheat, rice, corn, cotton, pasture, etc.) and cash crops, as well as seeds with market potential, are the focus of cultivation. A seed database has also been set up. By controlling and simulating growth conditions in a phytotron, the lab builds cultivation models for a wide variety of crops and weather conditions.
Phenotyping and Morphology Lab
The lab provides scientific data on growth and development, phenotype, and morphology of crops by integrating statistics and imaging analysis technology. From plant type, organ, tissue to cell and organelle, the external and internal structures of a crop are tested. Histochemical techniques are applied to study the chemical components of tissues and cells. In other words, the lab examines a crop at different levels to identify problems it may face as it grows and develops, and then formulates solutions.
Physiological Functioning Lab
The lab provides quantitative analysis data on physiological indicators of crops. From budding, growing to propagation and death, throughout its lifecycle a crop experiences changes in key physiological indicators, such as photosynthesis, respiration, nutrient translocation, water transport, and environmental response. The lab analyzes these physiological changes, identifies problems, and formulates formulate solutions.
Metabolic Functioning Lab
The lab provides quantitative analysis data on the metabolism of crops. A crop goes through metabolic pathways like carbon fixation, nitrogen assimilation, energy transformation, secondary metabolism, and oxidation defense. The lab analyzes their precursors, intermediates, final products, as well as active changes in metabolic enzymes. From transformation of major metabolic compounds and changes in regulation, the lab identifies problems in metabolic pathways and formulates formulate solutions.
Gene Regulation and Signaling Lab
The lab provides quantitative analysis data on the signaling elements and gene expressions of crops. As a crop goes through different growth stages and environmental conditions, it’s abiotic, biotic, and growth factors affect the synthesis of signal compounds and the expressions of key genes. The lab identifies problems in these pathways and formulates solutions.
